William Stables (born 1816)
William was the eldest son of John Stables of Barnburgh and was born in Embleton, Northumberland where his father was butler to Sir Henry Grey at Fallodon Hall. He trained as a clerk but joined the 6th Dragoon Guards from which he deserted on 24th June 1839, when he was 22 years old. His father's will ten years later states that he believed him to be in America. It is not known what became of him.
William Stables (c1798-1863)
William was born around 1798 in Morley and was a clothier by trade. He joined the Grenadier Guards at Barnsley in 1819 and was discharged in 1837. He may well be the brother of Daniel Stables who fought at Waterloo.
