The Stables Families of Kippax
Stables Family records first appear in Kippax in 1598 when an Elizabeth Stables married William Chamber, a descendent of the Chamber family of Swillington that married into the Stables family there in 1552.
William Stable, the son of Thomas Stable of Astlay, moved to Kippax some time before 1618. You can read his biography here. His son, also called William, was baptised in Kippax and spent his life there. You can read his biography and will here.
The hearth tax records paint an interesting picture of Ann Stable's fortunes after the death of her husband, William Stable (Junior). They obviously had a fairly substantial house at the time of William's death but within a few years she had moved to a much smaller property.
