Surviving Stables Wills and Where They Are Held
We have included here the full list of Stables Wills that are held at The Borthwick Institute and The Probate Registry.
The Will Index sections list all of the Stables (and derivations) Wills in the York Registry for the periods 1316 to 1688, 1689 to 1757 and 1758 to 1800. We have transcribed every entry from the indices that were produced by The Yorkshire Archaeological Society for this period and every entry from the Index of Wills at the Borthwick Institute. These cover the whole of Yorkshire and part of Nottinghamshire.
The Acts Books section lists all of the Stables (and derivations) Wills from the Acts Books, i.e. those Wills that were not entered into the York Register. Again, we have transcribed every entry from the indices produced by The Yorkshire Archaeological Society. These cover the period 1568 to 1688.
The Calendars section holds all of the Probate Records for Stableses in South Yorkshire, taken from the National Probate Calendars. We do not have every entry, only those that relate to the Archdeaconry of Doncaster area. These cover the period 1843 onwards.
Copies of the Wills at York Registry and in the Act Books can be obtained from The Borthwick Institute, York at a cost of £5 per copy (includes VAT and postage). Click here for details of how to order.
If you do purchase any Wills, please let us have a copy or transcript to help with the research.
