The Sale of Barnburgh Hall in 1859

This is a transcript of the particulars from the sale of Barnburgh Hall and Estate in 1859. It includes a number of Stableses as both tenants and purchasers. Included with the document is an original poster that was used to publicise the auction at that time.

The original documents are held at Doncaster Archives (Ref: DX/BAX/S/VOL II).

This lot is sold subject to the repairs of the More Chancel in Barnborough Church ;
also to a Rent-Charge of £2. 16s. 9d. per annum to Earl Fitzwilliam ; and also to a Lease
to John Hartop, Esq. of Barnborough Hall, and 3s. 2r. 2p., part of the above estate,
at the yearly rent of £60., and which Lease will expire on the 25th day of March 1862.
This Lot is also sold subject to the Right of Road to Fields belonging to John Stables
 and John Kitchingman's heirs. Barnborough Hall is most favourably situated, and
claims high antiquity. The celebrated painting by Holbein of Sir Thomas More, Lord
High Chancellor, and his family, will be reserved, with a right to remove the same. The
house, stables, gardens, and pleasure grounds are in excellent order. It is distant seven
miles from Doncaster, and three miles from the nearest Railway Station.
