South Kirkby PRs reveal another Family for Henry
Michael has searched the PRs for South Kirkby and not only found the baptisms of all of Henry of Barnburgh's children but also, amazingly, discovered that he was married before and had several more children that we didn't know about!
His first wife was also called Sarah, like his second wife Sarah Hutchinson of Wath, and he had seven children by his first wife.
One of these children was his missing son Henry, who we knew to have been buried at High Melton. Most of the others died young, except a Sarah, who remains unaccounted for.

Leeds Records and More Wills Viewed
Michael has very kindly supplied every Stables entry from the Leeds Parish Registers from 1571 to 1667. These include a few interesting 'extras' such as a will and some tax records.
Michael Chance, December 6th, 2003
Alison & I visited the Borthwick again yesterday and were able to view the Will of William Stable of Allerton Bywater (1663), which does indeed confirm that he was the father of our old Henry Stables (of Barnburgh), and the Will of Christopher Stable of Astley (1566), which again corroborates that the information on the Allerton Bywater Tree is correct.
These Wills are on order and full transcripts will be available as soon as we have them.
Andy & Alison Stables, December 6th, 2003

The Will of William of Hemsworth. Dated.1749
We have now completed the full transcript of the Will of William Stables of Hemsworth that first proved our connection with the Allerton Bywater Stableses (thanks to Michael for deciphering the tricky bits!).
This Will has some fascinating snippets of social history and is well worth reading. In particular for William's apparent disdain for the husband of his cousin Ann.
Michael & Andy, November 28th, 2003
Michael has also supplied more extracts from the Pontefract and Hemsworth PRs.
Michael Chance, November 28th, 2003

Allerton Bywater, Kippax Family Tree
We have been contacted by Karen Rowe in Australia who believes that there is probate evidence indicating that old Henry Stables was actually the son of William of Kippax, having been baptised there in 1662.
She has a copy of a Tree of "the Stables Family of Allerton Bywater", which shows a very likely candidate for Henry.
Karen is very kindly posting us a copy of the Tree, which should arrive in a couple of weeks.

Samuel William (Bisby) Stables of Parkgate
Darren Stables has kindly supplied some photographs featuring Samuel William Stables (b.1875 Parkgate) and his wife Janet Elizabeth Dent, together with their biographies.

Many of you have seen some of the information that is currently on the web-site through my mailing list but I have updated and corrected it since the paper version of the booklet was posted out. I'm putting lots more photographs on the web-site than were in the booklet and the family tree is bang up to date. Please e-mail me with your comments on the web-site or any contributions you may have. I would really love to receive some biographies of the people on the family tree to add to the web-site.

Parishes within 10 miles of Sprotbrough - Michael Chance, June 7th, 2003
Michael has begun searching for Stables records in parishes within a 10 mile radius of Sprotbrough. He has been very busy, having searched the following parish registers so far: Wragby, Austerfield, Barnby Dun (Burials), Kirk Sandall (Burials), Tickhill and Rawmarsh. These are now available in the Parish Records Section. Intriguingly, he has also discovered that Henry's son William was resident in Tickhill, and a farmer, at the time of his marriage to Sara Hobson in Sheffield.
Armthorpe/Sprotbrough Bishops' Transcripts - June 7th, 2003
I've extracted all the Stables entries from the Armthorpe Parish Register and Bishops' Transcripts. The BTs provided many records that were missing from the Parish Register. They also shows that Richard and John were churchwardens in the 1620s and Richard was literate in Latin. I've updated the Armthorpe section to include the new details and you can view the PR and BT records here.
I've also searched the Sprotbrough BTs but there are no other Stables entries, although they do confirm that Henry was resident in Sprotbrough in 1705.
The Web-Site has moved to StablesFamily.co.uk - June 4th, 2003
I've purchased the URL http://www.stablesfamily.co.uk and have moved the web-site to this new server that is free of adverts, faster and has a much larger capacity. I hope to start expanding the site to include more photos, downloadable BMD certificates, etc., but don't expect anything major till the Autumn, as I'm short of time and the weather's too nice in Summer to sit inside!

This provides some interesting social history on Victorian farming practices. I've also added some background about Charles Eyston and his relationship to Sir Thomas More.
Robin Hood and his Merry Men. - April 15th, 2003
This one's slightly tongue-in-cheek... The list of Sheriffs of Nottingham from the 15th Century to date includes three Stableses: Thomas Stables in 1507/1508, Robert Stables in 1518/1519 and another Robert Stables in 1588/1599. Could our ancestors have battled with Little John and Friar Tuck before moving to Yorkshire? I've placed a link to the Robin Hood Society's web-site here.

The Search for Henry Stables. - March 15th, 2003
My wife and I visited Doncaster Archives again yesterday to search (and re-search) a number of the early Parish Registers (1550s to 1700s) and the Bishop's Transcripts for Stables entries. Unfortunately, most of these produced nothing but they do fill in the gaps on the IGI, which does not cover the early periods 1550s to 1720. Parishes we searched include: Warmsworth, Marr & Adwick-on-Dearne (BTs). Then PRs for Thurnscoe, Bolton-On-Dearne, Wentworth, Mexborough, Adwick-le-Street, Arksey, Brodsworth, Wadworth, Owston, Braithwell, Burghwallis, Hickleton, Frickley with Clayton, Hooton Pagnell, Cantley, Rossington and Sprotbrough. The findings are now available in the Parish Records section.

Karen Rowe has kindly provided some more details of the Australian branch, which are included on this tree.
